Other
sites I recommend:
You obviously have impeccable taste in music, or you wouldn't
be a Matthew Jay fan, so here are some links for a few other artists
who I think are equally superb.
http://www.pioneersmusic.co.uk
- The official site for Manchester's hottest new band, Pioneers.
These five twenty-something adopted sons of Manchester have an
outstanding talent for original indie music,
which is at the same time both energising and laid back.
Wonderfully diverse instrumentation, with inspiration drawn from
the likes of Talk Talk, Neil Young and U2,
is blended beautifully with astounding vocals of frontman Phil
Ziedler to create a unique and powerful sound
that comes across powerfully in both their recorded material and
live performances.
Currently attaining a great deal of interest with the public and
industry insiders alike, this five-piece is definitely one to
watch.
If you love Matthew's music, you might hear some similarities
here in Phil Zeidler's emotionally-charged voice
and the sometimes otherworldly atmosphere to the slower songs.
Recommended tracks for Matthew fans: 'Something
New,' (check out the audio sample on the 'Tracks' section
of the official site), 'Shining Through,' and 'Closer.'
Contact the band through their official site and ask for copies
of their demos, or go to
http://www.northernambition.com
and pre-order their new single, released July 2004.
If you live in the North West of England, catch them regularly
live at numerous venues in and around Manchester (see http://www.shining-through.co.uk
[fan site].
Clare Canty.com - The
official site for one of Britain's most original singer songwriters.
To date, Clare is best known for her work with chart trance-dance
band Lucid,
who had two major hits in 1998: 'I Can't Help Myself' and 'Crazy.'
All this will change with the release later this year of her remarkable
solo material, written in partnership with producer Pete Williams.
Keep an eye on this brand new site for bulletins about the new
songs,
and for details of bookings for live appearances.
Within
Without An astoundingly detailed fan site dedicated to the
music of Talk Talk and Mark Hollis.
If you thought Talk Talk were just about early 80s synth-pop,
think again. Check out the achingly beautiful
'Colour of Spring' and 'Spirit of Eden' albums. Mark's remarkable
voice, combined with poetic lyrics, and melodies charged with
emotion, these albums are essential items in the collections of
anyone who appreciates
music with depth and integrity.
Countryandeastern.net
- The official site for singer-songwriter Paula Darwish.
Paula's music is an original and unusual blend of country, pop,
and Turkish influences. Strong lyrics, on a variety of subjects,
from love to world politics, are delivered in a sweet clear voice,
and backed by a largely acoustic ensemble of western and Middle
Eastern instruments, the result of which is something new and
exciting.
She gigs regularly in Greater Manchester, UK, details of which,
plus copies of her debut EP, 'Country & Eastern' can be obtained
via her web site.
Manchesterunsigned.com
