I received Matthew's CD this past Saturday... Incredibly beautiful
music that immediately saw its place in my IPod! :)

Matthew was such an amazing musician with deep and lovely lyrics...

In fear of sounding like a fanboy, I must tell you that the day I found
out he passed away, I felt this deep sadness... even though I never met the
man.

Just by listening to his lyrics I realized that this world had lost a
pure and beautiful human being that would've certainly done so much more,
if not for his unfortunate passing...

I want to thank Matthew's family for working hard in sharing his music to the
rest of us... truly appreciated! My thoughts and prayers are with the family, and Matthew... I know he's still creating beautiful music in Heaven :)

Thanks again, God Bless

What can say? This is tragic . I saw Matthew at the Little Civic and Varsity in Wolverhampton in 2001, and thought he was absolute quality.

Although over a year on, I feel compelled to offer some words of
appreciation for a fantastically gifted singer and songwriter.
'Draw' is one of those rare albums that you can genuinely describe as flawless.
I never tire of hearing each and every one of the 12 gorgeous tracks. A constant
companion throughout college, it got me through my exams and has inspired me
to pick up a guitar and take lessons. I am even listening to it as I send
this message. It goes without saying that I shall be ordering a copy of the
new album, and several more besides for the more discerning of my friends.

Although Matthew has departed this world, comfort must be taken in the fact
that his music will continue to remain in the hearts of many.

When I heard about your passing I had to cry.

I never met you or saw you live, but you touched me more than any other musician before.

I know now that we don't have to cry, we were lucky to know you, to hear you.
You were a shooting star, you left too fast.

We could see by your lyrics and your pictures that you were a great person full of love, you were an artist.

I was really looking forward to hear more of your great music, but I know that you are still writing great songs from heaven, and you will have many more beautiful things to show us, one day when will get there.

I'm trying to make sure that everyone I know hears about you, I want your music to live on, because you deserve it, and its the most beautiful gift I can give to someone.

You were just like a Butterfly, beautiful and fragile, with a short life, but we will always remember you.

I miss you so much, we will always love you, and I pray to ask the angels to take care of you because you are one of them.

I saw Mathew with Lowgold in the UK and I have to say that it's been my most
memorable gig. Lowgold and Mathew were both so down to earth and
approachable and the music and atmosphere will always make me smile. I now
live in Australia and have purchased an I-pod as I travel away from home
allot...the first two albums on it....Mathew's and Lowgold's. Both to me are
timeless..so much emotion and feeling...

I love going for a walk and losing myself in these albums. Mathew's spirit
will always be around as people who appreciate music will always pass his
on....god bless...

Thank you very much for compiling this album of Matthew Jay's rarities.
Quite frankly I have been blown away and touched by Matthew's music since I
first stumbled upon 'Let your shoulder fall' getting play on a satellite
music channel. On first listen his beautiful music and lyrics had me hooked.
I purchased 'Draw' as soon as I possibly could, and it possibly is one of the
finest debut albums I have ever listened to. Matthew's potential came
through on every track and I found the album to be beautiful and very moving
at times.

Matthew will be sadly missed, I remember reading about his tragic
premature passing on the NME website, and I was numbed at the loss of a
musician who had so much talent and potential and who's music I could relate
to. Matthew's music made me feel stronger and helped pick me up at times of
sadness. This has been continued with the release of 'too soon'.

I look forward to hearing more of the gems that Matthew never had the oppurtunity
to share with many fans like myself. May Matthew's music live on for
generations to come and may they be touched and inspired by his music.

I just wanted to say that it's impossible for me to put into words just how
I'm feeling about the loss of Matthew. It was a privilege to work with him
and we became the best of friends. All 'us lot' in Nottingham (and
elsewhere...you know who and where you are) are gonna miss him like crazy.

Matthew was a fantastic songwriter musician and singer. The album Too Soon
is, as I expected, fantastic. "Draw" is genuinely up there amongst my
favourite albums. I would love to have been able to see him perform live. I
was extremely saddened when I learnt about Matthew's death and I have great
admiration and respect to those who are keeping Matthew's music and talent
alive. I recently realised that my son Ethan was born on the day that
Matthew died. Ethan loves his music (albiet Row, Row Row Your Boat, and
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star at the moment!) and I will be playing Matthew's
music to him and tell him the significance of his birthday - maybe it will
help him to develop a love of music and maybe even inspire him be a great
songwriter and musician like Matthew one day.

I saw Matthew play at the Royal Festival Hall in London supporting
Tracy Chapman. It was a beautiful summer's evening and everyone was
stood outside enjoying the late evening sun and the view of the river.
I remember Matthew's songs floating out of the hall, beckoned us in to
watch him play. Matthew's songs struck a chord, and when I saw him
stood outside I wanted to go and tell him how much I'd enjoyed his
performance. How impressively he performed so calmly and confidently in
front of such a large audience in such an auspicious venue. Matthew
seemed like the genuine article, another Nick Drake, a legend in the
making. I felt truly inspired. I'm a singer-songwriter, and I have long
felt the difficulty of presenting honest heart-felt music within an
industry which sometimes seems to have no space for it. Seeing Matthew
play gave me hope. I wanted to tell him that. Tell him how good he was.
I didn't though. I went out and bought his single the next week though.
I think I thought I might meet him on the acoustic circuit, maybe we'd
play a gig some time, I could tell him then. Anyway, I wish I had now.
We never know how many lives we touch, especially with our music.

When I got married we walked out of the church to "Call My Name Out" ...
so that particular tune means a lot to me..always will.
